Spring fashion show and brunch featuring community role "models" rocking the runaway with garments created by Arts Partners students mentored by local fashion designers. Raise a mimosa with us as we celebrate the arts and creativity.
For more than 20 years, Arts Partners has transformed learning environments and young lives by delivering over 20,000 arts encounters every year to pre-k through high school students and their teachers. We teach math through music, science through dance, character development, and civic engagement through public art, just to name a few. In short, we use the arts as a way to build the habits of mind for youth to be successful in learning, work, and life.
Not only does art programming serve as an entry point to deeper learning and engagement in academic content, but it also provides a meaningful context for honing skills that are viewed as highly valued in the workplace, such as creativity, leadership, and innovation. For the past 9 weeks, nearly 200 students in the classrooms throughout our city have been working in teams to identify a problem facing our community, while learning technical and artistic skills to develop creative solutions. The best design will be built in the community with funding provided by the Wichita Community Foundation Next Generation of Philanthropy grant.
In addition to creating a viable prototype, students will work with local fashion designers to express their solutions to this community issue through a custom made one-of-a-kind wearable garment. A community role "model" will wear the design in our student fashion show and award ceremony.
